HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST ZAMBIA

Spiritual hunger in the early 1990’s brought together Christians from different denomination to pray at Kafue, 45km south of Lusaka. Led by Elder S. Y. Antwi, (now Pastor) and later Elder E. Badu Wood (now Apostle) who joined the group on transfer, these professional teachers at that time spearheaded the activities of the fellowship. Among the early converts were Nelson M. Lukwesa (a Magistrate), Davis Munalula, Daud Chandamali and Allan Phiri. The fellowship gave birth to The Church of Pentecost in February 1993. Six months later, the vibrancy of the church was evident with a second assembly planted at Mpika, 600km north of Lusaka through N. M. Lukwesa. Apostle Opoku Onyina, the then I. M. D. made his maiden visit to the infant but vibrant church in the same year during which visit the brethren named above including others were ordained into various leadership designations. Pastor M. C. Asiedu the then missionary resident in South Africa provided pastoral oversight until in September 1994 when the church was blessed with her first Resident Missionary in the person of Apostle Alfred Koduah (now the General Secretary). Pastor E. C. Asante (now Apostle) took over from 1998 up to 2003. Currently, Pastor F. K. Andoh is the National head, assuming office in September 2003.

10. CHALLENGES/ PRAYER REQUEST:

The challenges facing the church in Zambia are:

1. Lack of permanent structure for church meetings.

2. Lack of evangelistic equipments / Van to reach out to un- reached towns and villages;

3. Lack of committed leaders to take charge of the assemblies sacrificially;

4. High cost of rentals for mission houses and meeting places.

Prayer support is solicited for the following:

1.That, funds will be made available for the National Office Complex/ Mission House project currently

    under construction to be completed on schedule.

2. That, plans to disallow church services to be held in classrooms be dematerialized.

3. That, training programmes being carried out will result in having committed and dedicated leaders to take

    care of existing and new churches being planted.

4.That, logistical needs will be made available for enhancement of evangelistic and other programmes.

5.That, evangelistic activities will result in more indigenes won and grounded in the church.
